MODERN PARENT LIVING

Modern Mom {Brittany Pride}

It’s the first photo you see in the series below that stopped in my tracks. It was floating through my social feeds because of mutual friends {gotta love the interwebs} and though I did not know Brittany at the time, and I only saw this one photo by chance, I knew she was a Modern Mom to be. As the second mom from Tennessee to grace our blog, I think it’s safe to say, we’ll be making a road trip sometime soon. Sweet tea anyone?

Meet Brittany and Aria.

What does a typical day in the life consist of? The past 5 weeks of being a new mom have been a whirlwind since our precious baby, Aria Lynn, made her debut! It seems like each day is different and unpredictable yet the same. As of now, my days are spent loving on & caring for our daughter. It really is such an honor & blessing to be a mom… the best job ever! But also it has had many challenges so far. We found out that Aria has acid reflux so that has been causing her great discomfort since birth. Each day we have been trying to establish some sort of “routine” (and i use that term very loosely) as far as when Aria is eating, awake & sleeping. I think consistency and predictability are good for children and allow them to feel somewhat safe, so this is our goal, though we are far from reaching it. Typically our day begins around 8am… minus the middle of the night feedings! Aria loves being in our ErgoBaby Carrier so after she eats i usually put her in there and head down to the kitchen to make my own breakfast & have a cup of decaf coffee. I usually put on some music & dance with her in the process… and within 15 minutes she is asleep. I transfer her to her bassinet and let her sleep til it is time to eat again. And our day continues in similar cycles. I have been trying to get out of the house with her more – even if we just walk around Whole Foods, it’s nice to have some social interaction!
Aside of work and being a mom, what are some other things you’re passionate about? I also am a fan of healthy living/eating. I found out a few years back that I had some food sensitivities which forced me to totally rethink the way i was eating. I discovered that much of what i thought was “healthy” actually was the opposite! Having food sensitivities was a big blessing in disguise and i am thankful now to know what i do about food and can pass that along to my family. Along with that comes fitness… my current workout addiction is BarreAmped which was created by the beautiful, Suzanne Bowen. This method is so different from all other workouts out there. It focuses on small isometric movements within a contraction to make your muscles “shake”. You leave feeling so energized! The instructors at Releve One Fitness Studios in Franklin, TN are the best the fitness world has to offer… they strive for excellence in form and try to help everyone in class get there and feel the shake! They have become like my second family which makes going to the studio & working out fun… not to mention the method itself is a mind/body transformer. I was actually able to do BarreAmped 4-5 times a week throughout my entire pregnancy… right up until 2 days before i went into labor!

What is your favorite mom moment so far? I would have to say that when Aria was born and immediately placed on my chest by my husband, she looked right at me and we locked eyes. She wasn’t crying or anything, she just had these big eyes staring right at me. That was something i didn’t expect. It was almost like she was just as excited to finally meet me and see what i looked like as i was her! From that moment on we had an intense connection like no other. That was the best moment of my life! There have been many other wonderful mom moments in her almost 6 weeks of life, she recently learned to make eye contact and smile a real big smile at me… it’s so cute! I can make her smile now just be talking to her! It absolutely melts my heart!  I guess it just keeps getting better. :)
If you could describe your family in three words what would they be? Passionate, adventurous & unpredictable.

Who is your favorite style icon? I love Kristin Cavallari’s style. Her ensembles always look so effortless.

What’s one thing you love to do with your daughter? Snuggle! She loves to lay on our chests and sleep. It is by far the best feeling in the world. I hope she still wants to snuggle with her mama as she grows up!

Being a mother is a job in itself, how do achieve a sense of balance? Do you have advice for other moms? I would say this is my advice to myself: nothing has to be perfect!! My biggest struggle in all things is my own expectation for myself. I have it in my head that everything (my house, my life, etc) has to be a certain way. But that is such a lie! So my goal daily is usually to relax, as funny as that sounds!

What you’re currently listening to? My playlists these days are quite diverse ranging from baby hymns, to white noise, to the twilight breaking dawn 2 soundtrack (which Aria LOVES!). We love music around here and our taste is very diverse!

Three things we’d find in your handbag right now? Considering my handbag is currently a diaper bag, you would, of course, find diapers, my makeup bag and lots of extra outfits for Baby Aria. We had a fun day out recently of going through 2 outfits and not having another to wear… i won’t let that happen again!

On date night, we’d find you where? Probably Burger Up in Cool Springs. It’s my husband and I’s favorite burger place! They serve meat from local farms & have the most amazing sweet potato fries! It’s also a very kid friendly place, too, which we love! We also go to Chuy’s for mexican food often. Most amazing salsa around!
