MODERN PARENT LIVING

Modern Mom – Dana Faulconer

Modern Mom :: Dana Faulconer

Meet Dana – the Modern Mom who spends her days scouting out Reebok’s next best talent, while balancing a very busy {and growing} family. As Dana prepares for baby number two, we thought we would pop in to capture a few special moments between her and her first little love, Reese. Be ready to fall in love.

What does a typical day in the life consist of?

Lots of laughter and chaos! We are a really active family so most of our days consist of going to work, fitting in a work out, playing with princess dolls and Strawberry Shortcake, coloring and a dance party to Call Me Maybe is in there too!

Tell us about your career at Reebok, and the inspiration behind it?

Reebok is a great fit for me! I have been in HR and recruiting since I graduated from college and 5 years ago I joined the Reebok team. This gave me the opportunity to combine my passion for sport and fitness with my work. It has been and remains to be, an amazing experience. I work with so many fantastic people and continue to learn new things almost daily. It does not get much better than that.

Aside of work and being a mom, what are some of the other things you’re passionate about?

I live an active lifestyle (which after the arrival of baby #2 I will be thrilled to get back to). I love heading out for a run (with or without the jogging stroller), taking a kick a@# spin class, boot camp and CrossFit (which is something else I will need to get reacquainted with post-baby) and these are all things I can do at Reebok!

I am a bit of a geek about movies. I have an amazing friend with the same passion. We prepare for awards season by doing our homework with dinner and a movie dates. We actually went to the red carpet of the Golden Globes a few years ago and are both expecting babies this December, so I am sure we will be planning another trip to LA in the next few years as a mom’s get away.

What is your favorite mom moment so far?

At the risk of sounding like a cliché, there have been so many! Picking one is a tall order. Right now the one moment that comes to mind is when Reese kissed my belly all on her own because she wanted to give her sister a kiss (keep in mind, we do not know if we are having a boy or a girl, but she is 100% convinced she has a sister in my belly), but this moment made me really excited about what the future holds for our expanding family.

If you could describe your family in three words, what would they be?

Silly. Loving. Fun.

How would you describe your personal style?

I think I have pretty casual and laid-back style. But I love to add a really bold necklace whenever I can. That is how I try to step out of my comfort zone and have a fun piece with a pop of color. Now Reese is obsessed with her play necklaces, so hopefully this is something we can have fun with as she gets older.

Who is your favorite style icon?

Of course Jackie O is a huge style icon of mine. My husband actually proposed at the wedding exhibit at the Kennedy Museum, so I am a huge fan, but feel like I need to mention another icon since Jackie is almost a given. I think Gwyneth Paltrow is someone who consistently plays with fashion and I always look forward to seeing what she is going to do.

What’s one activity you love to do with your daughter?

Reese is really into any kind of art project and our house is full of them. Painting, coloring, drawing, stickers, play dough, etc. Anything that allows her to get messy and create, she is a huge fan of. We order Kiwi Crates so once a month we have 2 fun projects sent to the house and have a good time. She is a busy girl, so we usually have to switch gears from art to a bike-ride or scooter-ride to burn off some energy.

What is one of your most popular go-to meals during the work week?

To be honest, during the work week we keep things pretty simple and my husband is a great cook who loves to play around with recipes, so I have to give all kitchen credit to him. We grill year-round and usually have sautéed or grilled vegetables on the side. Nothing too crazy, but always delicious. We found a great lemon chicken recipe in Runner’s World a few months ago and that has been a special request of mine lately.

Being a mother is a big job in itself.  How do you balance between career and home life? Do you have advice for other moms?

I am not sure I am always as good at this as I would like to be. But my husband is definitely an important part of this balancing act. As a family we prioritize spending time together and having fun together. Everyday my daughter gets to see her mom do something she is passionate about. That was one of the best examples my Dad set for me and one I am proud to set for her. My parents make a great team and it made our family stronger because of it and I like to believe that Jason and I follow in their footsteps.

My best advice for other moms is to be kind to yourself and not judge yourself against other moms. Know what works for you and your family and hold strong to that. I think that is something I constantly work on. There is so much judgment out there and it does not do anyone any good. What works for one does not work for all, but always be confident in what works for you.

You’re always recruiting new talent at work. What are some of the key qualities you look for through the interviewing process?

When looking for new talent to join the Reebok team, more than anything we are looking for a true roll-up your sleeves person with a team-player approach. Someone who is passionate about the work they do and can clearly demonstrate their ability to work hard and achieve their goals.

Three things we’d find in your handbag right now?

Lifesavers, chapstick and US Weekly Magazine (try not to judge!)

On date night, we’d find you where?

We are a dinner and a movie kind of couple. I love my movies and my husband is great about indulging me with that! He is an avid home brewer, so our dinners often indulge him with that!

Dana’s 5 Must-Haves:

SkinClinique face wash and daily moisturizer

Make-up – I do not tend to wear make-up unless I am going out on date night or to a wedding. I grew up a swimmer and morning practices never allowed for a morning make-up routine – Clinque mascara is about it for me.

Hair – Redken All Soft

Designer – I am a J.Crew kind of girl

Food/Drink – The Cottage, Wellesley
