Get Fresh

Let’s Get Fresh.

Chopped cilantro, diced cucumber, greek yogurt, and a major zip of lemon zest… and don’t forget the dill. Sound like the tzatziki sauce from your favorite restaurant? I promise that this flavor-packed condiment is NOT coming from a take-out container.

This is the kind of cooking adventure I thrive on.

Truth is, I’m a foodie. I’ve been known to host cook-off competitions, dish at supper clubs, and team cook in our kitchen on the regular. I’m thankful because our little family gets it into it, which is awesome. Team cooking not only shares in the meal planning process, but we’re able to get our hands dirty together. Total bonus.

Right now we’re busy planning our back to school, and the goal is to make sure Nate and Charlie keep up with the fresh, seasonal eats they have indulged in all summer long: fresh berries, local produce, family-made meals, and lots of greens.

The Fresh 20 recently launched an of-the-moment campaign asking parents how their kids #GetFresh?! We love it {it’s a hashtag photo based campaign} so it’s something we can totally get into – have you seen my Instagram?

We love to share pics of our kids, and we l-o-v-e the idea of empowering kids to make healthful choices. Here’s a few ways we like to keep food choices simple & fresh at home:

ON DEMAND: Keep fresh produce and veggies on hand, at all times.

OPTIONS: Kids love to make a choice. Let them choose between two fresh snacks. I’m finding this super helpful with Charlie right now.

EXAMPLE: Our kids love to shadow us and their peers. Show how you #GetFresh and watch the domino effect go into action.

REWARD: Don’t be afraid to make a big deal when they eat their greens. Positive reinforcement is simple and effective. Everyone loves to have their work recognized – even when you’re 3.

ENGAGE: Kids will dig in if they had a hand in the magic. We team cook on the regular, and it’s the best part of our day.

Our 4 year old son Luke begs for the sweet little peppers at the supermarket. I cut them into horizontal rings and he eats them raw. He also likes his broccoli. I have to tell him to stop eating the broccoli and eat his chicken. Lol
