MODERN PARENT LIVING

Modern Mom Series {Lovely Lara Harrington}

Lara Harrington and her daughter Margot recently spent time with MoPa, guiding us through their eclectic world of curated details both big and little. As a business owner, personal trainer, and mother who loves to share her penchant for family, health and beauty (through bicep reps, of course) – she’s truly inspiring.

What is your all time favorite mom moment so far? It has to be the first time I saw Margot, her nose was so perfect! All I could say was where did that nose come from?

Who or what inspires your personal style? Not sure. Definitely into vintage. I have always admired my cousin Claudia’s style. She’s a seamstress in New York and has always been super stylish.

Who is your favorite style icon? Never thought about it, although I love what Debi Mazar wears in the Extra Virgin cooking show.

How long has Boutique Fitness been in business? What was your inspiration for its creation? We started the blog in July of 2011.  In-home training began in the Fall, and we finally opened the doors to our home in February 2012.

I had been training and managing a fitness facility in Rhode Island for over five years. During that time, I had my daughter. Our life was so rooted in New Bedford, mainly the downtown area, that it was breaking my heart to spend so much of my time in Rhode Island. I had also trained in-home before I had Margot and kept in touch with my clients. I was frequently asked to train in New Bedford but I had no extra time. Suddenly, the stars aligned and I knew there was a place for Boutique Fitness in New Bedford. It was literally a moment of inspiration and I have never looked back.

Can you recommend a quick and easy fitness routine for a mom on the go?

Jumprope

Bodyweight training: 20 squats, 10 pushups, 10 split squats each side

60 plank – 3 sets

What is one activity you and your daughter never get tired of doing together? Cooking!

What is your go-to dish to cook at home for family and friends? Spinach and artichoke dip with goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes. Served with chips and veggies.

Aside from fitness and motherhood, what are some other things you are passionate about? I love to garden and cook. We have some raised beds in our yard, so we eat fresh from our garden. I also love to write.

Do you have any fun tips or secrets on how to successfully balance a family and a career? First, set rules. There must be phones off time with the family.

Get your family involved in your career if possible. I love that Margot can visit me at the studio. She calls it “the business” and she is very proud of it. You can’t beat that. We are currently trying to figure out how I can train my husband at the studio. Makes sense to do it on Sundays, but that’s suppose to be our phones off day. I’m just flattered that he asked.

    Lara is a well rounded person – beautiful, intelligent, kind, informed, hard working, and most importantly true to herself. She has been that way since birth (I should know)
