MODERN PARENT LIVING

My Style {Valentine’s Day}

Color Block Love.

It doesn’t have to be fancy or over the top. It just needs to be special to you. I love Valentine’s Day because it’s just one more reason for me to make little moments, and things with the kids; it’s an excuse for cupcake play dates and little hearts painted on paper – just because. My idea of the perfect Valentine.

It’s also perfect for a “day date” with my love. We skip reservations and babysitters and opt for a long lunch at our favorite spot.

Get the Look // I swap out red and borrow from warm berries and other romantic tones to create an inspired color block. Make it work by keeping the details simple, and the focus on color. Not only is it easy to pull together, but it will take you from a long lazy lunch to the bus stop, and home again.

Simply take two hues that play off each. Top: I love this melon, coral color. This version from J.Crew is crush worthy. Next up; colored denim is a great alternative to your basic blue pair, these will instantly punctuate your wardrobe right now, while keeping you comfortable. Mom bonus: neutral pumps work everything – yes, everything. Grab this pair and go. Nails by Andrea at Ell Salon. Accessories are a mash-up from Stella & Dot, Target and J.Crew. Total Love.

Overheard at the shoot // “Let’s just say I’ll start my day early, before any of the kids get up and enjoy a fresh brewed cup of coffee, a delicious breakfast (with lots of bacon!), some alone time, and maybe a relaxing bath. The strategy is to lavish love on myself so that I am filled up to share that love with my children and love of my life.”  – Michelle Carr, photographer

“I am totally inspired by all the sweethearts coming through my door lately. The kids – boys included, are so into it this year. I love how sweet and simple they make it.” – Lauri Burke, Bloom MUA

“No exchanging gifts or anything like that, but a lunch date downtown. It’s easy – no fuss. At night, it’s a sweetheart dinner with the kids.”  – Denell
