MODERN PARENT LIVING

Think Pink

This month we’re obsessing over one color. It’s not off the runways, or super seasonal, but it’s relevant, and when done well, can be whimsical or sophisticated. We’re thinking Pink.

When working with pink, it’s all about the hue you choose, and how you apply it. Here are some examples of pink interiors – perfect sources of inspiration when designing for your littles.

Styling Tips:

Opt for a pure, soft shade when using as a primary color.

If using as an accent, ramp up the intensity. Bright bubble gum colors are perfect for decals, cutouts or special motifs.

Don’t be afraid to layer multiple hues of one color, in one space. It’s actually an easy way to make impact, and pull together a space.

Keep it simple. Bring in accessories that are easily replaceable should you want to change throughout the years.

Modern Mom {the lovely Linda DeFranco}

Linda DeFranco is one busy mom. During the work week she’s leading a team of globe-trotting trend forecasters in NYC, while choreographing a family of four at home. Punctuate that with Holidays in Italy or an extended research trip to Barcelona and it’s easy to see that she’s the quintessential modern parent.

On most days you’ll find her effortlessly dressed, breezing through her morning commute to Madison Avenue with coffee in hand, but that’s only after lunches are packed and her two beautiful children are off to school.

Meet Linda DeFranco.

What does a typical day in the life of Linda consist of? Well, if I am being good I’m up at at 4:30 in the morning for a good run at the gym or outside if the weather permits. Then it’s a shower, a cup of coffee, and if I’m lucky a few precious moments with my kids before I’m out the door and on the train to work. Work sandwiches a busy lunch-break where I run around like crazy to complete the myriad of errands I seem to always need to do. When I come home it’s an artful act of getting dinner ready, homework done, and various activities with the kids. By 9:30, I am dozing. I know at some point in my life I was sort of cool, but now if it’s 9:45 and I’m not in bed I start freaking out. At this point, beauty sleep is not optional.

Being a mother of two must be a tough job in itself, how do you find the balance between your home life and your career? Do you have advice for other moms? I pride myself on being a really good planner.  My husband tabbed me as the “Entertainment Coordinator” of the family because I plan all of our vacations, outings, etc.  It’s really important for us to spend quality time together as family. Luckily, I am blessed to have a tight-knight family that  delightfully share responsibilities with me. Whether it’s my mom, dad, aunts, uncles, or friends – there is always someone to pitch in and help out.

My advice for others moms is to avoid being caught up in the flurry of the day. Time passes quickly, take a moment, even if it’s for a few seconds, to measure, pause, breath, and be thankful.

Color Crush {White & White}

color crush {white on white}

Once upon a time, white was considered strictly seasonal… meaning we didn’t indulge until summer.

 Now, there are few rules in fashion allowing us to fancy white year round.
