MODERN PARENT LIVING

Top 10 with Denell

Here’s a little round up of things about me. It took me some time to post something like this, but after much prompting – here it is.

10 Things About Me

1} White is my color. As a color forecaster I love color, and with each new season comes a new favorite, but if I had to pick just one – it would be white. I prefer simple and classic for everything. One day I’ll own an all-white kitchen. Until then, I’m all about my White Honey board found here.

2} French Fry Friday. I’m pretty sure that one of my top guilty pleasures is also pure culinary genius. While living in New York, my girlfriend and I celebrated each Friday with french fries and simply called it French Fry Friday. I prefer my fries fresh, with a pinch a salt and a side of ketchup. In our house, this favorite side dish is also a term of endearment; Justin lovingly calls me French Fry.

3} There’s always room for pink. I’m mom to two boys, Nate (6) and Charlie (2), and I actually love being the only female in the house – it somehow makes my role as ‘Mom’ even more special. To balance all the boy stuff in my life, I opted for a champagne pink bedroom {I’m really not a pink person}, and it works wonders.

4} I’m a pizza snob. I lived in NYC for many years and for me, MA offers a far better pizza pie. I imagine that these are considered fighting words to most, but I stand by it. Rest assured knowing that New York offers far better fashion. Let’s just leave it at that.

5} Lost in translation. I was stranded in Hong Kong once. It was not a good time, but I’m proud of the challenges I had to work through, and I was that much happier once I landed in Japan.

6} I’m a holiday geek. I love most holidays. Usually that means I am crafting, cooking or baking to get into the spirit. Christmas has always been my number one, but lately Valentine’s Day is pulling serious rank.

7} I’m way into cooking {and tasting}. I love to try new things, especially experimenting in the kitchen. At some point, Justin and I belonged to a cooking club and I’m proud to say I took the title in my category {fist pump moment}. For Christmas, Nate bought me a cookbook and it was one of those moments where I was like, “ok, this kid gets me.”

8} I’m an equal opportunity shopper. I believe you can shop anywhere. Yes, anywhere. At one point, shopping was a big part of my gig – it’s literally what I did for a living. I’ve shopped high – low, here, there and everywhere. The key is to edit and try on – you’ll never make a return or waste time and money. Time is key. As moms, we have much less of it, so now I prefer to shop local retailers with smaller collections that I know will work for me. It’s all about shopping smarter, not harder.

9} I organize my closet by category then color. I like my system; it’s just a matter of maintaining it, which is a whole other issue.

10} A few of my favorite things: I love a good pop song, coffee, fresh flowers at home, manicures, handbags, weddings and warm temps {or lots of blankets}.

I’d love to have you post a comment if you relate to any or all of these, because let’s be honest – I’m not the only one who loves french fries.

    Hi Denell!
Ooooh French Fries! Yes!!! The next time you’re heading up to the South Shore, stop in at the Hingham Shipyard. Wahlburgers has the best french fries in the world. The have great milkshakes too. Also, pizza!?! this area has great stops for Gluten Free pizza too! G&S in the North end of NB is great as well as On The Go in Mattapoisett. Just in case anyone was wondering.

Love the champagne pink bedroom! Nice pop of (subtle) color, style, and femininity.

MT, My top pick for pizza is Riccardi’s. I love the pie, and the original location on Hathaway. I’m also a big fan of Ray’s, Matt’s Blackboard in Rochester, and of course Brick in downtown NB. I love a good pop song/car concert… The kids dig it too.
