MODERN PARENT LIVING

Moderm Mom, Sarah

Sarah01

We had the pleasure of spending a morning with Sarah and her beautiful girls in their finely curated coastal home. And trust me – it was easy to get cozy and stay awhile.

Meet Sarah, Elise & Vivian.

Describe your personal style? My personal style is classic: I love natural fibers and simple silhouettes that allow me to stay on trend by simply adding accessories. I believe great accessories make an outfit.

And your style at home? I think the style of my home is in sync with my personal style in the sense that it is classic. I love traditional shapes, natural fabrics things that feel clean and simple. I like coastal touches – it’s fun to live in this area, and to be able to bring those elements into our house.

Color or Neutral? Neutral, Neutral, Neutral! A few years back I was obsessed with a floral print couch that we ended up purchasing and after looking at it day in and day out, I longed for a neutral sofa. That experience has changed me forever. Every big commitment I make with home decor; whether it’s wall color, a headboard, a sofa or end table is in a neutral color. Color comes with accessories that I can change out seasonally or when I tire of them.

What’s in your handbag right now? What isn’t in my handbag right now? I always carry a large handbag because I have a mixture of work papers, business cards, day planner, mixed in with at least 2 diapers, small pack of wipes, hand sanitizer, fruit snacks and the occasional toy. I also always have pink cream blush and mascara on hand because they can instantly make your face look somewhat awake and pulled together.

You best kind of dinner plans? At this point in our lives, we enjoy dinner at home. With our two girls, Elise 2, and Vivian 2 months old, it’s easier and usually a lot more fun to sit around the dinner table and share a meal and some smiles. Also my husband works evenings sometimes, so when we are all home to eat dinner together it feels special. Elise loves when we are together as a family, and so do I.

Where would we find you on a date night? Nate and I love to grab dinner and cocktails if we have the chance! It is always fun to try new places but we are also content keeping it simple with a quick bite out somewhere close by just to catch up.

When it comes to the kids, what’s one thing you never tire of?  We are always up to take a trip to the farm. Alderbrook is our local farm and you can visit the barn see and pet all the animals while also picking up fresh produce and local ground coffee (which is my absolute obsession these days). It’s a fun thing to do with the kids especially if you just want to get out for a little bit. I love that the owners recognize us, and that we’re contributing to our community.

Best “mom advice” you’ve received? Always carve out time for yourself; a happy mom is a good mom. This couldn’t be more true. I am more patient and ready for a fun day or weekend with the family when I am feeling content.

Biggest surprise about being a Mom? There are too many surprises to count. With each new milestone your child achieves, somehow it feels exciting. When Elise first recited her ABC’s start to finish, or when Vivian smiled for the first time – my husband and I were thrilled.

Your favorite family getaway? My family rented a cottage on Mary’s pond throughout my childhood and those are some of my fondest memories. I want to create that experience for our children. In the winter, it’s Burlington, VT. My husband and I love visiting there for food, the people watching, and scenery. It always feels relaxing there.

Typical weekend? We love getting the kids out and about so weather depending we will do Buttonwood Park Zoo, Alderbrook Farm, or the park. As long as we are out and about everyone is happy. If it’s cold or rainy we’ll do the library, lunch somewhere or simply visit with friends and family. At night we’ll play games and catch a movie before bedtime routine starts.

Three words to describe your family? Sweet, loving, fun!

To see my grandmothers hope chest as a design feature in sarahs home brought back so many fond memories of comfort, so glad to see some early 1900s pieces make a house a real home
